Teaching Technology in Education

This week I've been in Sussex NB, Canada teaching 2nd and 3rd year students at Kingswood University.  I've taught his one week seminar every other year since 2004.  Think about the changes in technology in the past 10 years!

In 2004 I brought a trunk full of cameras and equipment and Apple Canada provided four MacBooks.  Total value: around $25,000.

I taught Microsoft Office and the students made their first digital video... most of them had never even tried to do that before.  I took almost a day of instruction, planning and working together to make that happen.

2014

This year all I needed was my  MacBook Air and my iPad.  Once again, Apple Canada came through - this time with 10 iPads for the students to use.  Once again, the students created videos (several actually) - they used their iPads and had their first video done in an hour.

It really was a great week! (Below you'll find the course outline)  There were 10 students in the group - so a great number for a more intimate classroom experience.

"21st Century Skills" - Create, Collaborate & Connect.

Today I'll be doing a 1/2 day seminar with the professors from the school, along with the teachers from the local Christian school - all of whom have had an iPad for 2 years.  We'll be diving into the flipped classroom, the appropriate usage of technology in the classroom as well as "the future"... (as if anyone can predict that!)
